Turkey

by Sharon Egin

Turkey has become increasingly popular, and now has over 17 million visitors each year. It is renowned for its history, hospitality, value for money, landscapes, clear seas and sandy beaches.

Turkey has many more claims to fame, including being home to 2 of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, Artemis and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.

All seven of the churches of revelation are located there, some still standing. Historical ruins are scattered everywhere and were inhabited by giants such as the Hittites, Phrygians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans, to name but a few.

It is the birthplace of historic legends such as Homer, King Midas, Herodotus, St. Paul the Apostle, and St Nicolas - or Santa, as he is known today. The famous battle of Troy was fought there; Noah’s Ark is thought to lie there. The list goes on and on.

Turkey is the only country in the world to span two continents, which fits its personality perfectly. Although now developing into a modern country with its sight set on Europe, it retains a charming culture reminiscent of times gone by. Cosmopolitan resorts with designer nightlife compete against unspoilt treasures without a hotel in sight.

Whatever you are looking for in a holiday, in Turkey you will be sure to find it.
